About Nosara
Nosara was established in 1968 by a group of American investors originally planned as a golf course country club. It has since become an eco-community where residents live in harmony with the natural surroundings of the Costa Rican jungle. Today, this has resulted in a family friendly destination with a community feel. The prestine beauty of the area is quickly being discovered and is now attracting tourists from all over the world. The recent opening of the Liberia International Airport in Guanacaste has made Nosara more accessible han ever at just a two hour drive from the international airport. Domestic carriers Sansa and Nature Air have expanded their reach to Nosara, offering multiple daily round-trip flights to and from San Jose directly into Nosara. What was once a 5 hour drive is now a 30 minute flight.
What makes Nosara Unique?
There are certainly people who like the big hotels and resort type developments with golf courses, chain restaurants, and helicopter pads, however, there are just as many people who seek to avoid those types of places. If this is you, then Nosara is for you.
Nosara has the cleanest water in Costa Rica, awarded with The Bandera Azul Ecologica from the Costa Rican government for the community’s active dedication to enviormental preservation.
The first 200 meters of beachfront is designated Ostional Wildlife refuge, designed to protect Olive Ridley turtles. The fact that you don’t have to cut through someone’s hotel, restaurant, or estate keeps the beach beautiful, pristine, and secluded. The community of Nosara is not likely to have high density and will NOT have any high rise condos.
The Del Mar Academy
Nosara will grow as a community not entirely dependent on tourism. Tourism will always be a big driver, but more and more families are looking to move here because of the lifestyle. The Del Mar Academy is an international Montessori IB school which opened its doors one year ago. This is an independent day school for students in preschool through sixth grade. The mission of the academy is to provide a high quality, bilingual education in a stimulating setting. The school stresses the students awareness of environmental issues and challenges facing the world today and its success is a telling sign of the community that has formed in Nosara.

Nosara is known world wide for having the most consistant surf on the entire coast, making it truely an endless summer!
